Monona, IA. They have a daughter, Rachel.

Orville is retired, but helps with the farming with his son and son-in-law. Irene also continues to help with the farming and is a very active volunteer at school and church. They are members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, IA.

Verne George William Koenig was born on a farm three miles east of Castalia, IA, a son of Fred H. Koenig and Alma (Schlie) Koenig. He married Ardith Schultz on 2 Sep 1942 at Postville, IA. She is a daughter of Joseph Schultz and Sarah Mae (Schellhammer) Schultz. Ardith was born at Castalia. Verne made a career in radio and musical entertaining, even after his retirement. He taught himself to play the guitar and began his career as an entertainer, announcer and engineer in radio. In 1943 he took a course from Brown Institute, St. Paul, MN and received his engineering license. After receiving offers from 15 radio stations, he accepted and began his first job at Station KFJB in Marshalltown, IA in 1944. Then to KTUM.Yuma, AZ, KDTH, Dubuque, IA, and KDEC, Decorah, IA. In 1951 he became co-owner and President of the Scenic Broadcasting Company, KDEC, Decorah.
He also served a term as President of the Iowa Town and Country Radio Network, a group of Radio Stations throughout the state. After retiring in 1985, Verne continued as a Country and Bluegrass music entertainer with the groups Bluegrass Breakdown and the Nordic Players. He made several recordings for OLD HOMESTEAD records in Michigan and has recorded a number of cassette tapes on the OAK HILL label. After recording an album of CARTER FAMILY songs for OLD HOMESTEAD records, he was a special guest and sang at the Carter’s annual family reunion in Hiltons, VA. Verne has written a number of songs, one of them recently recorded by Jim & Jesse of the GRAND OLE OPRY Nashville, TN.
He was and is active in many organizations. Verne and Ardith belong to Good Shepherd Lutheran church where Verne served a number of years on the church council and as the second President of the congregation in 1959. He is past President of the following organizations that he and Ardith belong to: Winneshiek County Historical Society; Bloomfield Township Historical Society; the Audubon Club and the Oneota Stamp Club. For many years he served on the board of directors of the Porter House Museum in Decorah. He and Ardith are also members of the Decorah Genealogy Association.
Ardith graduated from Castalia High School in 1941. She is active in Good Shepherd Church WELCA. She also has done volunteer work at the Aase Haugen Home, the Decorah Hospital and Decorah Genealogy Library. She also was a volunteer cub scout and girl scout leader. Ardith is a quilter and is active in the Desert Lily Quilters Club in Yuma, AZ during the winter months.

Bonnie born at Marshalltown, IA married Thomas Daleness at Decorah 12 Apr 1969. Thomas was born at Underwood, ND. Their children are: Corey, Kevin, Angie & Kristi. Bonnie graduated from Decorah High School and Luther College with a BA in German Language and Education. Before her marriage she moved to Milwaukee, Wl and taught in the Milwaukee School System for several years. She now works for Fleet Mortgage Group as manager of Systems Support, the second largest mortgage service system in the world. Tom graduated from the Garrison, ND high school, the North Dakota School of Forestry with an associate degree and from The Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in Milwaukee. He received his funeral director license in 1969, and now works as a Funeral Director for the Schmidt and Bartelt Funeral Homes in the Milwaukee area. Tom also spent four years in the Navy. They live in West Allis, Wl.
Gary born at Yuma, AZ married Peggy Reed on a ship in Miami Harbor off the coast of Florida 26 Feb 1993. Peggy was born at Broomfield Co. Gary graduated from Decorah High School and Iowa State University at Ames, lA with a BSME degree in 1969. He worked for Pratt & Whitney as a mechanical engineer in West Palm Beach, FL, then moved to Minneapolis, MN and worked for the City as a Systems Analyst. He also worked for the A.C. Neilson Rating Service as Director of Operations in Minneapolis. He then moved to Boulder, CO and became Systems Programmer for Story Technology. Later he became Managing Director for Precision Visuals in their office in London, England. He now works for PS.I. as a multi-media consultant. Peggy graduated from Colorado State University in 1979 with a BSCS in computer science. She worked for N.B.I., Pro-Link and
